Emergency Veterinary Services

Please call our office right away if your pet is having any symptoms or behaving in a way that you are concerned about.

The team at WellPet Humane is reliable and caring, and they can help pets in most emergency situations. Animals are our passion, and we take great pleasure in giving your pet the best medical care when it needs it the most.

Steps to Take In A Pet Emergency

If you are experiencing a veterinary emergency, follow the steps below.

  • Call Ahead If Possible - During business hours, call us right away. If you need help with your pet after business hours, call the animal hospital above.
  • Follow Instructions Provided - When you call the emergency pet hospital to let them know you're on your way, you may get instructions on how to give your pet first aid or make it as comfortable as possible. Follow these instructions very carefully.
  • Remain Calm - Keep your cool and be extra careful around your pet. When an animal is hurt, they may be angry at anyone who tries to help them and bite or scratch them.
  • Bring Your Pet In For Care - Do not put yourself in danger! Our Doraville veterinary clinic or the one above is a safe place to bring your pet.

Emergency FAQs

WellPet Humane is able to see urgent and emergency cases on a limited basis.  Here are some of the most common questions we get.

  • Do I need to call ahead?

When we're open for business, WellPet Humane can help cats and dogs with emergency and urgent veterinary care. It's always best to contact us in advance if you can, but we understand that sometimes that isn't possible.

It's best if you go to the after-hours emergency vet location shown above if we can't fit your pet in.

  • When is your clinic open?

Our veterinarians see emergency cases during our regular business hours:

    • Monday:08:00 am - 06:00 pm
    • Tuesday:08:00 am - 06:00 pm
    • Wednesday:08:00 am - 06:00 pm
    • Thursday:08:00 am - 06:00 pm
    • Friday:08:00 am - 06:00 pm
    • Saturday:08:00 am - 04:00 pm
    • Sunday:Closed

  • What situations require emergency veterinary care?

The following situations are examples of emergencies that require immediate care:

    • Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
    • Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
    • Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
    • Fractured bones or severe lameness
    • Seizures and/or staggering
    • Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
    • Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
    • Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
    • Injuries to the eye(s)
    • Your pet has ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
    • Heat stress or heatstroke
    • Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
    • Unconsciousness
  • How long will we have to wait to see the vet?

In our Doraville animal hospital, things can change quickly and you might have to wait.

It's impossible for us to know which cases we'll see and when they'll show up to us. If you can, call us ahead of time to see if we can help your dog or cat in a pinch.

It's best to visit the 24/7 animal emergency hospital above if we can't make an emergency appointment with our vet.

  • What happens if my pet needs to stay in the hospital?

Some veterinary emergencies need 24-hour care. At WellPet Humane, if your pet needs overnight care we will refer you to a local pet emergency hospital.

However, if your pet's needs can be managed at home overnight, we'll ask you to pick your pet up and bring it back the next day.

But while in our care, we will treat your pet as if they were our own.

  • What types of animals do you treat?

Our emergency veterinarians see cats and dogs.
